Anubis

Anubis was born on February 9, 2015, and was bred by Petrea Reed in Oklahoma. He came home with us the day after he turned 5 months old. He had previously belonged to one of my training clients at work, before she realized she was not experienced enough to own a wolfdog. Anubis’ parents are Blade and Neptune, who have been in the care of Texas Wolfdog Project for several years, after a family emergency occurred and Petrea had to give them up. I had the pleasure of meeting Blade and Neptune several years ago, and enjoy following their story as they live out their golden years in the care of TWP. Like his parents, Anubis is a mid content wolfdog. He is 3 generations removed from the closest pure wolf in his pedigree, which is abbreviated as F3 (F refers to Filial Generation).

Anubis is a very affectionate and intelligent boy. At first, he comes off as serious, but is secretly hiding a total goofball personality. He can be kind of a weirdo! He learns very quickly and is highly food motivated, which makes it a breeze to teach him new tricks and behaviors. He loves to relax at home on the couch, or get out and go on hiking adventures with us. Anubis tends to be selective about which male dogs he gets along with, but tends to like pretty much all female dogs that he meets. He grew up playing with a wide variety of dogs at doggy daycare where I used to work as a professional dog trainer.

Anubis has a moderate prey drive. He will give chase to small animals if given the chance, but is fairly easily redirected. He is same-sex selective, and tends to have strong resource guarding behaviors at meal times. He does well trading high value treats in exchange for toys. Anubis was fertile year-round, which means that his stable hormone levels contributed towards a consistent temperament year-round (prior to his neuter) and he did not experience seasonal aggression.

Anubis is retired from breeding. He sired 3 litters and has 15 surviving children out of 2 different dams. He now enjoys his retirement as our loved family pet and companion to his youngest daughter, Rose.

Anubis is 27 inches tall and weighs 73 lbs. Although he is a black wolfdog, he will not phase to white with age. His color is called “seal,” where his agouti coat pattern faintly shows through his dominant black coat color. According to Anubis’ Embark Vet DNA test results, he is 55.7% Gray Wolf. A link to his Embark results is listed below.

Note: The vet thought Anubis was a Tamaskan Dog, too, because we brought him in with both Talia and Reckless to get all their x-rays done at the same time. They mistakenly put Tamaskan as his breed on the submission form for his OFA’s. He is not actually a Tamaskan Dog.

Anubis’ Embark Breed Results

Unfortunately, Embark has recently hidden the breed test percentage results for wolfdogs. The breed percentages can no longer be viewed on the dog’s public Embark profile. Only the account owner is able to view breed percentage results for their wolfdog, by logging into their Embark account and opening the dog’s private profile. As a result, we are now only able to share our wolfdogs’ breed results via screenshots, which we have included below. Please understand that we are unhappy with this development and hope Embark will allow wolfdog breed percentage results to be shared on public profiles again soon. Health test results and coat/body type results are still visible to the public. - 12/2/2023
