Below is a list of general requirements that applicants must meet and adhere to, in order to qualify for reserving and purchasing one of our puppies.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive or complete list of every single requirement necessary to qualify for purchasing one of our puppies. There may be different or additional requirements that an applicant must meet, depending on their individual circumstances. Every application is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, with the goal of locating buyers who are prepared, committed, and capable of safely and responsibly raising, containing, and caring for our puppies.

Follow the Law…

All of our puppy buyers MUST live in an area that is legal to own wolfdogs, including puppy buyers for our registered Tamaskan Dog litters, since they will have detectable wolf content. In legal terms, wolfdogs are often referred to as “wolf hybrids.” This term generally refers to all generations and percentages of wolf-mixed dogs, unless specifically stated otherwise in a particular law.

We will verify, to the best of our ability, the Country, State, Province, County, City, and Neighborhood laws regarding owning wolf-mixed dogs for every single one of our applicants. We also strongly encourage our applicants to do their own homework regarding this topic BEFORE applying and obtain copies of their federal and local laws as proof of legal ownership.

Some Countries, States, Provinces, Counties, Cities, etc. require special licenses or permits in order to purchase, import, and own wolf-mixed dogs. If an applicant lives in such an area, we will require them to obtain all necessary licenses BEFORE we can approve an application and allow them to reserve a puppy from a future litter, or adopt an available adult. This typically requires the applicant to construct containment according to the standards mandated by their state or local government and submit to periodic inspections. Sometimes, a special insurance policy is also required, as protection in case of an accident where the animal damages persons or property.

International shipment of wolf-mixed dogs is governed by CITES, which requires special permits for wolf mixes who are F1-4. Additional restrictions may be imposed by the export and import countries, depending on their individual laws.

Proof of residence is required when submitting an application. All applicants who live in areas that have banned the ownership of wolfdogs will be denied. No exceptions.

Vet Care…

All applicants must provide us with the name, address, and phone number for a local veterinarian clinic who will agree to treat wolf-mixed dogs. We WILL contact this vet and double-check.

We also strongly urge our applicants to locate a local emergency vet clinic who will agree to treat wolf-mixed dogs. You never know when an emergency will happen and your wolfdog’s life will depend on immediate vet care. We have seen many instances where wolfdog owners have been turned away by multiple animal ER clinics because they were not comfortable with treating wolfdogs, which sometimes lead to the devastating loss of their sick or injured wolfdog.

We require our puppy owners to keep their Tamaskan Dogs and Wolfdogs updated on all annual vaccine boosters, including Rabies and DHLPP, as well as parasite preventatives for heartworms, fleas, ticks, worms, etc., and any additional preventatives recommended for each owner’s local area.

Fencing and Containment for our Wolfdog litters…

Proper fencing and containment is critical for the safety and wellbeing of a wolfdog. These are large, extremely athletic, highly intelligent animals who have a strong instinct to roam and explore. The average 6 ft picket fence or 12-gauge chain link fence is not nearly strong enough, or secure enough, to keep a wolfdog safely contained at home.

We require all of our applicants for our Wolfdog litters to provide photo and video proof that they have fully completed reinforced fencing anywhere the wolfdog will be outside off-leash, plus separate outdoor containment where the wolfdog can safely stay unsupervised. In-person home and containment checks may also be required during the application process, which will be performed either by us personally, or by one of our trusted friends in the applicant’s area.

We require the yard and containment fencing to be a minimum of 8 ft tall, and reinforced with a heavy gauge welded wire, such as 4-gauge cattle panels (sold at livestock stores such as Tractor Supply). The yard and containment must also include 2-4 ft lean-ins angled at 45 degrees, to prevent the wolfdog from climbing or jumping over the fence. Dig guards must also be secured to the bottom of the fence and containment, and must be at minimum 4 ft wide if placed horizontally (flat) on the ground. Full roofs and/or floors are also permissible for the containment. We strongly recommend double-gated entryways, to prevent the wolfdog from door-dashing and escaping. There must be shelter in the containment to provide the wolfdog shade and protection from sun, wind, rain, snow, etc., as well as 24/7 access to fresh water.

For wolfdogs who will spend the majority of their day inside their containment (while you are working, spending time with the family, away on holidays, etc.), the size required is a minimum of 2,500 sqft. This provides the wolfdog enough room to run, play, and engage with enrichment activities to alleviate boredom.

For wolfdogs who will be going to active/sport homes where they will spend only a small portion of their day in their containment and receive sufficient mental and physical stimulation in other activities, the minimum size required for containment is 128 sqft. This provides the wolfdog with a small run where they can potty, eat, and rest while you are not immediately engaged with them. Please Note: ALL of our Upper Mid and High Content Litters are required to have containment that is at minimum 2500 sqft in size, even if they are going to an active home.

Our Facebook kennel page, Wolfdogs of the Ebon Blade, has a step-by-step photo album that explains how we construct our wolfdog containment, as well as reinforce existing fencing. Click the button below to link to this album. Please contact us if you need advice on how to install new fencing or reinforce existing fencing.

Fencing for our Tamaskan Dog litters…

Adhering to the legalities of owning wolf-mixed dogs in your Country, State/Province, and local place of residence is required, no exceptions. We are happy to assist applicants in researching their relevant laws and are glad to help refer interested parties to registered Tamaskan Dog breeders who are focusing on producing 0% wolf content litters, if necessary. The safety and wellbeing of the animals are always our first priority!

Applicants for our Tamaskan Dog litters do not need to have as extensive of fencing and outdoor containment like what we require for our (non-Tamaskan) Wolfdog litters, as described above. Most Tamaskan Dogs will do well with a properly maintained 6 ft fence. That being said, Tamaskan Dogs are VERY athletic dogs, and there are individuals who require above and beyond the bare minimum fencing in order to keep them safe and sound at home. When in doubt, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. It never hurts to take precautionary steps to reinforce and secure your fencing in order to safely contain your dog, no matter what breed or mix they are!

Please note that invisible fencing is NOT an acceptable means of primary containment for our Tamaskan Dogs.

Electric “invisible” fencing has been proven to be ineffective at keeping a dog within the boundaries of the established area. Heightened levels of excitement, aggression, prey drive, and fear can all be distracting enough for any dog to cross the boundaries, despite the shock. Unfortunately, once the dog has crossed the boundaries, they are often also prevented from safely returning home, due to receiving shocks when they try to cross back into their yard. Invisible fences also do not prevent other people or animals from entering the yard and approaching or interacting with the dog, which can be a significant risk to the dog's safety, as well.

Sturdy fencing that is at least 6 ft high is required for our Tamaskan Dog litters. Outdoor enclosures are not required, but can be helpful!
