Sylvaen Tarth “Reckless”

Reckless was born on November 10, 2015, and was bred by Sylvaen Tamaskans in Croatia. Reckless was born into a litter of 12 puppies, which was the largest litter size in the Tamaskan Dog breed up to that point. Reckless came home to us at 16 weeks of age, due to the USA’s import age restrictions. She is registered with the Tamaskan Dog Register and the International Tamaskan Register as a 1st Generation Tamaskan Dog. Her parents are Lupo vom Fenriersgard (“Lupo”) and Saxon Slavyanka (“Zora”). Lupo is an approved Foundation Dog to the Tamaskan Dog breed, in order to provide an outcross option for breeders to grow the breed’s gene pool. Lupo is a mid content wolfdog between about 50-60% Gray Wolf, from Southern Breeze, Cypress Creek, and Davidson lines. Zora is a registered Tamaskan Dog.

Reckless imprinted on me like a duckling the moment she got home, and has been inseparable ever since. She wasn’t too sure about Dustin at first, but has grown to love him, as well, and will get very pushy with him when she decides it’s time to demand his attention. She is such an affectionate, goofy, velcro-dog who always wants to be by my side and involved in everything I’m doing. She is extremely athletic and enjoys hiking adventures in our local state parks. Reckless has such a clownish, quirky personality, and has been a real joy to have as a part of our family.

Reckless is a fast learner and is always eager to learn new things. She is strongly motivated by food and praise, which makes training her quick and easy. She is very attentive and likes to stick close to me. Her prey drive is moderate, so although she will chase small animals if given the chance, she is pretty easily redirected. Reckless is same-sex selective and tends towards not having a whole lot of patience with other female dogs unless they have very good manners. She will fall all over herself to impress the boys, though, and loves to play with dogs that she is friends with. Reckless has zero resource guarding behaviors; in fact, I have to hold her raw meals for her, to encourage her to eat it and not just play with it.

Reckless is retired from breeding. She whelped 3 litters. Her first litter was accidental, due to my husband failing to separate Reckless from Anubis when I had told him to in late 2019 while I was at USMC Boot Camp. Sadly, the 3 puppies from her first litter, born early January 2020, did not survive the birthing process. Unfortunately, since I was Active Duty in the Marine Corps and stationed in California at the time she gave birth, I was not legally able to come home to assist her. Reckless’ second litter was planned and was also sired by Anubis. She gave birth to 7 puppies via emergency C-Section on December 26, 2020, after experiencing uterine dystocia. Sadly, 2 of the puppies (1 male, 1 female) passed away shortly after delivery due to becoming stressed during labor. Her 5 surviving children have matured into stunning wolfdogs. Reckless’ third and final litter was born via scheduled C-Section on September 19, 2022. The litter is a registered Tamaskan Dog litter, sired by an Alaskan Husky named Booker, who was approved to be an Outcross Dog for the Tamaskan Dog breed. There were 9 puppies born who are growing up to be lovely representatives of their breed!

Reckless is about 24 inches tall and weighs about 60 lbs., so she is a fairly small dog. She is agouti gray in color. According to her Embark Vet DNA results, her total wolf content is 34% total Gray Wolf. A link to her Embark results is listed further below.

Reckless has a special name…

Our Reckless was born on November 10, 2015, which is an important day in our family. The United States Marine Corps was founded on November 10, 1775, and we celebrate this day every year because my father, husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and I are all United States Marines. There is a strong love of the Corps in our family, and I just knew that this little girl puppy from Sylvaen Tamaskan needed a Marine’s name when she had such a special birthday.

There are many important female Marines in our Corps’ history, but the name that I chose belongs to Staff Sergeant Reckless, USMC. SSgt Reckless was a Mongolian mare who served as a war horse with the 75mm Recoilless Rifle Platoon, 5th Marines, 1st MARDIV during the Korean War in the early 1950’s. SSgt Reckless has a truly incredible story of bravery, loyalty, and ceaseless devotion to her duty and her fellow Marines. SSgt Reckless was one of the first animals to earn the official Title of United States Marine. I couldn’t think of a better role model to name my new puppy after.

Reckless’ Embark Breed Results

Unfortunately, Embark has recently hidden the breed test percentage results for wolfdogs. The breed percentages can no longer be viewed on the dog’s public Embark profile. Only the account owner is able to view breed percentage results for their wolfdog, by logging into their Embark account and opening the dog’s private profile. As a result, we are now only able to share our wolfdogs’ breed results via screenshots, which we have included below. Please understand that we are unhappy with this development and hope Embark will allow wolfdog breed percentage results to be shared on public profiles again soon. Health test results and coat/body type results are still visible to the public. - 12/2/2023
